9th of May 2018, Malaysians collectively voted out Barisan Nasional (BN) that had been in power for 61 years. BN was a ruling coalition dominated by Umno (United Malays National Organisation). Umno was a political party playing with the insecurity of the Malays, that has the highest population, and using short term handouts to lure voters to maintain power. On that day, Malaysians including many Malays, despite their fear of the threats by other ethics, especially Chinese descendants, helped each other to vote out BN.
That was the right step in the right direction for Malaysia to get rid of corruption and abuse of power perpetrated by BN/Umno. Many Malaysians did not realise that was only the first step in the right direction. Many of them were having too high a hope that everything would be fine once BN was out of power. They forgot that the mess, including many billions of loans BN had taken up on behalf of Malaysia, must be repaid by Malaysia (new or old). Malaysians did not benefit from those loans as most of the money had been siphoned to enrich the Umno leaders, in particular the former prime minister, Najib Razak.
Practically each adult Malaysian had a wishlist to be fulfilled by the new Pakatan Harapan (PH) government. With almost 23 million working adults in the country, there are easily 23 million of wishlists to be fulfilled by the new government. Some wanted the wishlists to be fulfilled within days. For they thought all would be fine, with the new government elected.
Wishful Malaysians have to wake up to the reality that fixing a host of problems after 61 year is not successfully completed by electing a new government per se. It is just the first of the many hundred, if not thousand, steps to be taken. The new government have to work hard to fix the problems one by one. It takes time and perseverance.
Malaysians should realise that it would be a big achievement for Malaysia, if the PH government can reduce corruption by 50%. Mind you that corruption had been on the rise throughout the 61 years of BN in power.
Malaysians should not feel disgruntled because their long wishlists had not been fulfilled after one year and fall back to the traps set up by BN in its attempt to regain power. BN will reinstate corruption and Malaysia will absolutely be bankrupt beyond repair in the hands of BN for another 5 years.
Just look at the wealth of Rosmah, the wife of Najib Razak. If this was not corruption, what was?? Read the below article:
